Go-Around
Purpose and Objective
A Go-Around is used by pilots if something is not right during a maneuver. We terminate the current maneuver being performed and transition to safe, climbing, forward flight.
Maneuver
When the need for a go-around is identified by a pilot.
Raise collective to 5 min takeoff power and initiate a climb.
Announce “Going around.”
Once clear of obstacles, apply forward cyclic to achieve 53 KTS or best rate of climb.
Common Errors
- Not initiating the go-around in a timely manner.
- Applying forward cyclic to initiate the go-around.
- Continuing a bad maneuver.
